Working Principle Steps:

Step 1: Coating the Screen with Emulsion
In a dim environment (or under yellow light, avoiding bright light), apply the photosensitive emulsion to
the screen mesh.
Use a scoop coater to evenly spread the photosensitive emulsion onto one side of the screen mesh,
creating a smooth, flat blue coating.
Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the emulsion to air dry naturally. Now, this screen plate is ready.
It’s like a wooden board coated with a “carvable material,” waiting to have a pattern etched into it.

Step 2: Alignment and Contact
Place your prepared film positive (with the pattern facing up) in the center of the glass plate of the exposure unit.
Then, take your prepared screen plate and position it face down (the side with the blue emulsion) onto the film.
Important: The patterned side of the film must be in tight contact with the blue emulsion layer of the screen.
There must be no gap between them.

Step 3: Vacuum Compression
Close the rubber blanket lid of the exposure unit.
Activate the vacuum pump button. The machine will make a humming sound, removing all the air between
the glass and the rubber blanket.
You will see the screen pressed tightly against the glass by the pressure, forcing out any air between the film
and the emulsion layer. This step ensures pattern sharpness and prevents UV light from leaking through any gaps.

Step 4: Exposure
Press the exposure button. The powerful UV lamp inside the unit will light up.
UV light passes through the glass, then through the transparent/clear areas of the film positive, precisely
hitting the blue emulsion underneath.
Where the film is transparent, light passes through and hardens the emulsion it touches instantly.
Where the film has black/dense pattern areas, the UV light is completely blocked. Therefore, the blue
emulsion underneath these areas remains “soft” as it was not exposed to light.
This process typically lasts from tens of seconds to a few minutes. The lamp turns off automatically
when the time ends.

Step 5: Washing Out the Pattern
Release the vacuum, open the lid, and remove the screen plate. At this point, no visible change
is apparent on the plate.
Remove the film positive. Then, take the screen plate to a washout station and rinse the emulsion
side evenly with a gentle stream of water (or spray).
A magical phenomenon occurs:
The emulsion corresponding to the black pattern areas on the film (which were not exposed to UV light)
is “soft” and washes away, revealing the open mesh underneath. This is where ink will eventually pass
through to form the pattern.

The emulsion in other areas that was exposed and “hardened” remains intact, firmly blocking the mesh
holes. These become the non-printing (blank) areas.
After washing is complete, you can clearly see the pattern, identical to the one on the film, now on the
screen plate – open where it should be, blocked where it shouldn’t.

Step 6: Drying and Hardening – Making the Plate Sturdy
The freshly washed screen plate is wet. You need to place it in a drying cabinet.
The drying cabinet blows warm air to completely dry the plate.
Once dry, the hardened emulsion becomes more durable. Sometimes, to make the plate even stronger,
after drying it’s placed back into the exposure unit (without vacuum) and exposed to the UV lamp
again for about a minute. This is called “post-exposure” or “hardening exposure,” essentially “curing
and setting” the pattern.
At this point, a screen printing plate ready for use is completely finished.

Summary:
The entire process utilizes the principle of black areas blocking light and transparent areas allowing
light to pass through. By using vacuum pressure to ensure tight contact and ultraviolet light as the
“engraving tool,” the pattern on the film is precisely “burned” onto the emulsion-coated screen.
This ultimately creates a stencil plate that can be used for printing.
